WHAT ARE THREAD VEINS?

Thread veins are tiny veins that appear most commonly on the cheeks, nose and legs. Small thread veins are red, but the large ones look purplish, they have many names i.e: spider veins, broken veins and capillary veins.

Normally the tiny veins in the skin are invisible but in some people they expand and show through the skin. A few reasons for this one is too much sun exposure, pregnancy and they also may be inherited. The veins are more obvious on midlife when the skin becomes thinner and looses some of its collagen. Laser treatment is the best treatment for removal of red veins making it fast, safer and more effective.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF THREAD VEINS?

Several different factors contribute to thread veins:

  • Hereditary
  • Environmental: Sun exposure, Wind etc.
  • Lifestyle: Diet, Smoking, Central Heating.
  • Medication: Steroids and other listed medications.

HOW DOES THE VASCULAR TREATMENT WORK?

The visible light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the walls of the thread vein. As a result it will gradually and safely disappear after the treatment.

WHICH THREAD VEINS CAN BE TREATED?

Superficial thread veins on all body sites can be treated. The most common areas to be treated are for superficial veins in the facial, chest and leg areas. As the treatment relies on the absorption of light by the red blood cells the most effective treatments are seen with light skin. However, the vascular system has pre-programmed settings for different skin colours that deliver the correct energy output for your skin colouring.

HOW LONG DOES A VASCULAR TREATMENT TAKE?

The treatment depends on the area to be covered or the number of distinct vessels to be treated in a treatment session. A typical treatment session usually takes around 20 minutes. 1-5 treatments may be required leaving the correct time between the treatment, determined after each result.

DOES IT HURT?

Pain threshold varies from person to person, however some people generally experience a sharp pinch for a fraction of a second.

DO I NEED TO TAKE SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT?

Yes, it is extremely important to avoid sun exposure before and during procedure, otherwise the light will be absorbed by melanin in the skin surface making the treatment less effective. We recommend you limit sun exposure and use an SPF 20 during and after treatment.
